I’m about to tell you my favorite story about neighbors helping neighbors that I’ve ever heard

I know this guy. He and his girlfriend live in a house in the Appalachian-like hills just below TV Hill, overlooking Hampden in central Baltimore. Most of their neighbors are young renting couples much like themselves. There is one sweet elderly widow who has lived on his block for fifty years. All the neighbors pitch in and help take care of her. They shovel her walk, mow her lawn … you get the picture.

Usually, she shows her appreciation by baking cookies for all the couples on the block. Once though, she put out a little extra effort and knitted a little something for all the men on the block. One day, she went door to door and delivered her little creations. She knocked on the door of the guy who I know, and he and his girlfriend greeted her at the door. She smiled and told them she had knitted him a little gift and explained to them what it was. It was a cozy for his little willie. She used to knit them for her husband to keep him warm on his hunting trips. The cozy consisted of a long thin cylindrical portion for junior, an attached … um … sack-like portion for his buddies and a little draw string to keep everything in place. She proudly beamed as they thanked her before she scurried off to the next house.

I think that’s fantastic! Although I doubt that I would every wear it, I would love to have an elderly neighbor knit one of those for me.
