Note to self, one:

When you run into the girlfriend of a friend and coworker, staffing a booth for her nonprofit family education organization, and you decide to go up and make chatty chat chat with her, do not pick up one of the pamphlets and mockingly quote the passage, “Falling in love is easy; sustaining love over time can be a challenge.” She just might reply with an , “Um, yeah. I write those pamphlets.”

Even if she laughs it off, picks up other pamphlets and mocks other cheesy sounding passages, you’ll still come off like an asshole.

Note to self, two:

If you are hanging out in your watering hole on a Saturday night, and if a girl you had been dating a couple of months before walks in (a girl, by the way, you had cut if off with by simply neglecting to call), sits next to you, informs you that she is moving back to Boston and just wanted to stop by and say goodbye, no matter how much whiskey you’ve consumed, DO NOT proposition her and ask her if she wants you to go back to her apartment. She probably won’t appreciate it and definitely won’t say yes.

No matter how empowering that last “Oh no. I don’t think so” may have made her feel, you’ll still come off as an asshole.

I’m not saying you have to be perfect, but please do us both a favor and try to be an asshole a little less often, okay?

Yes sir.
