So, Joseph Steffen, aka “The Prince of Darkness,” aka “The Grim Reaper,” aka “Darth Vadar” likes to consider himself a student of Lee Atwater?

Well then, let’s start with Lee Atwater’s history:

Lee Atwater, once considered "the Darth Vader of the Republican party", "the happy hatchet man", and "the guy who went negative for the sheer joy of it," built his reputation as a successful political strategist from the seventies through the early nineties.

In the 1980, during a South Carolina congressional campaign, Atwater employed tactics that included fake polling to inform suburban white voters that the Democratic nominee was a member of the NAACP, sent out letters for Sen. Strom Thurmond informing voters that the Democratic nominee would disarm America and “hand it to liberals and Communists”, and planting fake reporters at press briefings to ask questions about the Democratic candidate’s “psychotic treatment.”

During the 1988 Presidential Campaign, Atwater spearheaded an ad campaign to inform the American Public about Willie Horton, a black murder convict who raped a white woman while on a Massachusetts furlough program under Michael Dukakis. Atwater was also believed to behind lies that Dukakis’ wife had burned an American flag during the Vietnam war and had himself been treated for mental illness.

But, enough about Lee Atwater. Let’s look into another of Atwater’s “students,” Karl Rove. Once again in South Carolina, during the 2000 Republican Primary, Rove employed Atwater tactics against George W. Bush’s rival, John McCain. To defeat McCain, Rove spread rumors that the Senator had engaged in extramarital affairs with African American Women which had produced interracial children.

Now, let’s get back to our own boy, Joseph Steffen and the rumors that have been spreading around about Mayor Martin O’Malley.

The rumors as I’ve heard them:

(Mind you, I have no links here. I’ve been listening to these rumors for over a year now. One can’t exactly google bar conversations, can one?)

O’Malley was having an affair with former Baltimore African American news broadcasting hottie, Sade Baderinwa, which resulted in an unplanned pregnancy.

(now here is the funny part) In an attempt to cover up the Mayor’s transgression, Sade Baderinwa was quickly transferred to New York’s ABC 7 Eyewitness News (as we all know, New York broadcasting is always willing to
pick up small market inexperienced back-mattresses to cover up small market sexual transgressions. Of course, the most coveted job in local news
broadcasting is reserved for people who have brought shame to cities like Baltimore. Ha!).

After she showed up for work in New York, O’Malley supposedly contacted his connections in the New York Mob and contracted a “hit” on her in July of 2004 to further cover his err of judgment. While covering a story in New Jersey,
Baderinwa was struck by a hit and run driver (the hit and run did actually happen).

In another version of the rumor, O’Malley has been having an affair, has been long separated from his wife, and has been sleeping in of all unGodly places, (gasp!) Washington D.C!!!

In yet another version of the story, O’Malley’s wife’s father, who always wanted a boy, has blamed his daughter for O’Malley’s sexual transgression and putting too much effort into her career and not enough into building a happy home (see, she’s just like Hillary).

Now, lets do the math. Sexual infidelity + Black Woman + Mongrel Children + Hillary Clinton + liberal politician linked to the mob + (gasp!) Washington D.C. + Joseph Steffen = LEE ATWATER STYLE POLITICAL STRATEGY!!!

So what, you ask? Robert Ehrlich can’t be held responsible for the actions of one state employee. After all, as Ehrlich said yesterday, Steffen “was only one of 50,000 state employees.” Right? WRONG! Steffen has been Ehrlich’s chief hatchet man for most of his political career. He worked under Ehrlich throughout his entire tenure in the House of Representatives.

“He was widely regarded as the dirty trick operator of the Ehrlich campaign...He was basically their hatchet man” said Gerry L Brewster, who lost to Ehrlich in the 1994 Congressional campaign. Connie Galiazzo DeJuliis, who lost to Ehrlich in the 1996 Congressional election, said of Steffen, “He’s the guy who does the stuff so Bob can pretend to be above the fray.”

Let’s set one thing straight, Steffen was not fired for spreading rumors about O’Malley, he left his job (supposedly fired) for leaving a digital trail of lies directly into Ehrlich inner circle. As Steffen said himself Tuesday night on FreeRepublic.com “Given the volatility of the situation - and knowing the blowback potential on the Governor - I opted out rather than letting him bleed further at the hands of O’Malley.”

“...opted out...” ????

I thought you were fired, Joey?

Once again, Governor Ehrlich, how do you spell respect?

Awesome post. I moved to NYC at the same time that Sade Baderinwa did, which I thought was interesting, so I posted on my blog about it. That post ended up on the same archive page as a post about my pregnant sister. That set up a whole chain of people searching for "Sade Baderinwa", "Sade Baderinwa pregnant" and so on. I got so many hits that I deleted her name from the entries because it was messing up my counter.

Anyway, yesterday, the shit obviously hit the fan, and I got a random email from someone who'd read my blog who was kind enough to explain this all to me:

Hi

I understand you might be confused about so many hits on your blog about Sade. Well, down in Baltimore, rumors have been swirling for months that she had an affair with our mayor. Of course, it is a bunch of tripe. The poop hit the fan today, because one of the Governor's aides was behind some of the mess.

I think you also had the word pregnant and it was producing a false hit.

So yes it was a bunch of pervs, but those interested in juicy gossip. LOL

Weird.

Every high level politician has a hatchet man, regardless of party affiliation. Just because Ehrlich's got found out now doesn't mean O'Malley's won't some day. None of them are above the fray or they wouldn't be viable candidates for the positions they seek or seek to retain.

More importantly, in reference to your last post, did you see that VA dropped the droopy drawers bill? And not so much because it was stupid and probably unenforceable and/or unconstitutional, but because the legislature was being made fun of and they felt like idiots? Now that's comedy right there.

Sorry, didn't mean to be anonymous. I've been doing that a lot lately.

I consider Ehrlich a particularly low form of life. He is a pure gutter politician. Sending out his minions to purge disloyalists from nonpolitical posts throughout state government? etc. etc. etc... He makes my skin crawl. He soul is composed entirely of piss and vinegar.

I loved it the other day when Ehrlich’s press secretary, after asking what was said at O’Malley’s press conference, and being told the story of how O’Malley’s children had asked both his parents to sign his report card to so they would making fun of him for his parents be split up, mockingly wiped away a fake tear for the press corps. Of course, Ehrlich can’t be held accountable for the actions of his own press secretary. After all, his press own secretary is only one of 50,000 state employees, right?

Or when Ehrlich offered a State bail out of the city school system last year, under the condition that O’Malley publicly toss his salad, made him sit on a hard bench outside of his office in front of the press corps for four hours, all the while sitting in his office giggling.

The State of the State last week, when Ehrlich demanded “respect” from his political enemies something like 17 times in his speech... and criticizing them for engaging in “Capitol Hill assassin politics.” All this while the Mayor and other political figures from Montgomery and P.G. Counties were banned, from the State of the State?

All politicians may or may not have hatchet men, but Lee Atwater style political strategy is a particularly virulent form of gutter politics, and is the primary strategy that Ehrlich has used for his entire political career.

Not that I’m a huge fan of O’Malley. I guess what I’m really pissed of about Ehrlich is making me agree with that bleeding heart Baltimore Sun bitch ass, Michael Olesker.

Oh yes, and blacklisting the only signifigant press outlet in the state for being critical of him? I guess that’s why it was the Washington Post that had to break the story.

Just wanted to inform those of you who apparently are not, Joseph Steffen was inherited from the good ole' boy Glendenning. The Mayor of Baltimore is an ass, he tried to blow smoke when it finally hit the fan to confuse and diffuse the issue of his infidelity to Joe Curan's daughter prior to election year so this could simply be swept beneath the perverbial rug and point the finger away from himself. Really does anyone care anymore? If Bill Clinton can lie under oath about his sexual escapades in the white house who cares about this lowly mayor? Martin O'Malley is the "alley cat". Truly, what has he done for the great city of Baltimore? The drug rate has risen, the murder rate has risen, the school systems are in the red, the city has fallen apart during his watch. What's wrong with the city of Baltimore to re-elect someone like this, are they all on crack?
If he indeed had an affair and then tried to run the young lady over I hope he rots in hell. I hope that Ms. Baderinwa has the guts to tell the truth and not be intimidated by the likes of O'Malley and Curan. They must love the way the Kennedy's clean-up their messes and are trying to copy their style. O'Malley thought that all that ass kissing to John Kerry would get him a job with the administration and get him the hell out of Baltimore before the shit hit, I guess he missed his chance, now his career depends soley on his father-in-law, who probably would have gladly seen him off.

ha ha ha!!! Thanks for the input, Gov. Ehrlich, but anonymous comments are treated as congecture, hearsay and lies around here. Oh, yes, good job hitting the right wing nut job hot buttons "Clinton" and "Kennedy" but you forgot to mention Hillary, that overeducated bitch who doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut.

Now, if you would be so kind, please return to your basement with your arsenal and prepare for the apocolypse. And be ware, I heard a negro moved onto your block.
