Big stuff

April 20, 2005

I don’t actually have anything significant to share about this. I just thought the graphic was amusing. I like the guy on the right the most. He looks like he has chaffy thighs and that makes me giggle.

I did want to point out that the Body Mass Index Calculator is a load of crap, so by extension, the study is meaningless as well. The BMI gives absolutely no consideration to bone structure or body type, and that’s just the one obvious flaw that I can think of right now.

According to the index I have a normal body weight, which is bullshit. Anyone who knows me knows I can only be described as a bony ass, but the BMI says I have a rating of 22.2. I’ve had friends who could be best described as being significantly overweight completely dejected because they found out their BMI categorized them as “extremely obese.”

If this study has found anything at all, it has found that people who have been described by the medical industry as “over weight” are actually “normal weight.” According to the study, people who are of a normal weight and can maybe pinch a couple of inches are statistically healthier. Well, big fucking DUH to that.

It’s all relative anyway. The statement “it is statistically healthier to be a little overweight” makes no sense. Wouldn’t the weight that was found to be statistically ideal become the normal weight by extension? Oh, but no, the scales are obviously tilted towards skinny asses like me.

Besides (and this is for you ladies out there), just so you know, I prefer a little chunk anyway. If you ask me it’s because of some sort of subconscious Darwinian thing that causes me to want to mix my bony ass DNA with some flabby DNA to give the next generation a statistically higher probability of having an ideal body weight or something. But what do I know; I’m no statistician.

So ladies, if you’re ever walking around Mt. Vernon and run into a guy who looks like this:

You should seriously consider taking him up on his offer. He eats cheap, you can have his leftovers, you won’t have to share your dessert, and I could really use a cheeseburger.

Yeah, any BMI that you do online is complete garbage. You really need to sit down with your doc and do a whole physical before they can really start to get close to what your BMI is, and what a healthy weight for you would be. For example, I know my BMI is between 18 and 22, but I always come up as 24 on the online calculators. Junk science.

Well then, you and I would get along swimmingly! I gots some junk!

But what about the obese guy in the graphic with his hands out to the side like that, makes him look like a homo-sissy boy.

nice shout-out to the chunky ladies.

i tend to measure my body not by BMI or advanced bathroom scale technology, but rather by how well my clothes fit. or don't it.
