Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think security on commuter trains is a light matter, but what was MARC thinking when it posted these? The absurdity of it seems almost tongue in cheek. The star over the red banner? The pole? Did a sarcastic graphic designer get this by? Is MARC having fun at the expence of the Department of Homeland Security for handing down a demand for propaganda?

I was searching for a comparison on the internet, but it wasn't really necessary. We all know what communist propaganda looks like. I did find this, though:

Update: What the eff is a MARC Marshal, anyway? Anyone else think something is rotten in Denmark?

Update: Confirmed. The private sector seems to be accountable for this remarkably bad decision. The posters are part of a CSX program to promote passenger security awareness. The bizarre “MARC Marshals” logo can be explained by these posters not having anything to do with any federal authority or an actual law enforcement agency.

That is pretty darn strange. Maybe its part of the new effort to make the alert levels 'cool'. I still think that the cows for the MD lottery have it beat for misuse of propaganda.

actually, I tried to switch over to a full feed to appease your sorry *ss and somehow f*cked it up. I fixed this after posting. this may have effected your feed. It's showing up on blogtimore.

paul- no we don't. I think the photo is genuine, and from train stations between here and DC, but there are still many questions unanswered. Is it the feds, CSX, MARC, darned tooting good guerrilla art, ....and again, WHAT THE F*CK IS A MARC MARSHAL??!!!
