I couple of days ago, while ripping off Jim Davis and zinging Yoga, I added Sufism to my list of sillies that I have no interest in. [and no, the post really didn’t make any sense. Somewhere in the middle, I segued from mocking yoga to pointing out the word freedom doesn’t really seem to anything anymore. What can I say? Stream of consciousness really isn’t my forte.]

This morning I was perusing the front page of the New York Times and you’ll never guess what I saw? That’s right. Apparently, Yoga and Kabbalah are, like, so yesterday. All the cool kids in TriBeCa are now devotees of Sufism.

Don’t get me wrong, if I was forced to live in a place where I had to choose whether I’d be surround by either Sufis or Wahhabists, I’d pick Sufitown. But if I had to share a prison cell with one of the two, I think I would prefer have to listen to a Wahhabist for fifteen hours a day. Hate, I can drown out. But if I had a cell mate who insisted on spinning in circles all day, slapping me in the forehead while chanting “Love” in arabic over and over and over again, I think I might actually become a wahhabist.

You know, I think it is even more common for Confused MOT's to become Sufists than it is (thankfully) Jews for Jesus.

But really, What you need is a few good Salafin. If you like your hate nice and raw and your spiritual mambyjahamby fresh from crazytown, Salafism is the way and the light. To these guys, wahhabists are wanky fahnbois.

alright, I'll bite. What the hell is a MOT? Also, google search of "salafin" lead me only to password protected sites. and "fahnbois" only had one single google hit, and that was hinkybox.com.

MOT : Member of the Tribe; Person of the Jewish persuasion.

a Salafi is an adherent of a Sunni extremist cult -- so extreme that they think wahhabis are pussies. Salafin being the arabic plural.

Fahnbois: Fun boys. A reference from the Flying Hellfish episode of the Simpsons.
