So last night I was surfing the internet news sources and came across an article that said something to the effect of “Lake Pontchartrain Levee Breached.”

Then, for the next twelve hours, came across news articles that all said something to the effect of “New Orleans Battered, But Spared of the Worst.”

Um... huh?

It wasn’t until the past couple of hours that the articles have been updated to say, “Oh Fuck, Oh Fuck, Oh Fuck! Shit, We Forgot About Gravity!”

And don’t get me started about this involving a huge FEMA bailout for a city of nearly half a million people who voluntarily live five feet below sea level... next to the ocean... in a flood plain... on a coast that is prone to being pummeled by hurricanes. Talk about bound to happen sooner or later.

I wish you people the best. I also hope FEMA tells you that you have to rebuild on higher ground.

Louisiana Swamp Monster! I thought about you when the law of averages finally caught up with your old swamping grounds. No disrespect to the victims, of course. Is your old neighborhood gone?

Yes, Dad said that he loved New Orleans because it was hot, moist, sticky and permeated with a sense of evil, “just like... like... a great big giant vagina.” Or so he said at the dinner table one night. Gives a whole new meaning to the “Big Easy”, eh?

Oh, yeah, I went lurking around your sister’s Friendster space an saw a picture of you and her at your wedding. Congrats on the marriage! If you have them digitized, please send me some pics.

I must be turning into a real New Orleans in my old age.
