Like Those Drunken Irish Catholics Do

November 03, 2005

I’ve been keeping track on the guys at The Post Show for the past month or so, since they debuted with the a skit where one of them bounces around the lower east side wearing a “Baltimore Blows” t-shirt. The skit itself was pretty damn clever, although the execution was fairly stiff. I think I may have found post more entertaining than was justified, as I couldn’t get it out of my head that I was slightly offended, which was idiotic, and that amused me.

All and all, these fellas are pretty funny; and for brief snippets, so are parts of their skits. On several occasions, I’ve almost posted entries to encourage people to check them out, but the executions could be irritatingly spotty that I couldn’t quite stamp them with a seal of approval. Still, they’re much better than anything I could come up with.

Since they’re new to a medium which is arguably a new medium, I’ve been going back and waiting for them to work out the kinks in their comedy. They have been progressively getting better and better, and today’s post pretty much holds from beginning to end without making me wince... well, right until the end when they almost lost me, but pulled it together with a good slam on homogeneous dating.

So, please check out Who Would Jesus Do? It’s funny, I swear (probably work safe):

Also check out some pretty clever ideas in their archives as they work out the kinks (probably not work safe).

Oh, yeah. These guys almost have a vague connection to Baltimore. They graduated from Towson, which is sort of close I hear. Towson admits clever people? Who knew? (I have a feeling I might get into a little trouble over that one.)

Feh. It was okay. And it wrapped up nicely at the end. Though it still felt a bit lengthy and overacted.

new medium... amataurs working out the kinks. I say give it time, these sort of things will get tighter and more professional. Actually, the wrap up towards the end was what made it fall sort of flat for me. Also, it would completely suck if it was not overacted. But yes, loose editing is one of the biggest problems.

But what do you know. Drunken Irishmen have no sence of humor.

Usually Towson only admits good looking people, but they took a risk on Brian and I and opted for clever. I don't think they'll be making that mistake again.

I'm glad you're enjoying the show, and we're doing our best to improve week in and week out. By early 2006 we're hoping to reach the point of being "moderately amusing" as opposed to "fairly entertaining," but I'm not going to make any promises. Stick with us.

Finally, I enjoy your blog (despite being the proud owner of the Baltimore Blows t-shirt). I miss my Maryland days, and I miss wearing that t-shirt to Camden Yards like the asshole NY Yankees fan that I am.

Again, thanks for taking the time to write about us.

"despite being the proud owner of the Baltimore Blows t-shirt"

heh. I'm sure 80% of the fans loved that shirt. I've grown to hate that ballpark, but I'm happy we provided a park for New York, Boston and DC to enjoy. Our complements. But seriously, show some character. Become a Mets fan.

You and Brian are funny as hell, and that shit will kick soon enough. I know it must be a pain in the ass, when everyone is used to budgeted skit comedy, and they seem disappointed the material isn't as tight as what they are accustomed to from Comedy Central etc., especially in light of the fact that you are churning out 2 a week, with a writing staff of two, with a budget of zero, in your free time with the help of friends who are also providing their free time.

But when the stuff gets great, don't get rid of the overacting! I love the overacting!

That was simply fucking hilarious.
