Amazing
June 27, 2006
This shocked me. I thought for sure there would be a significant portion of Govt-stay-out-my-business conservatives opposed to such a waste of federal legislative resources, for such a pointless and insignificant matter. I guess I gave them too much credit.
Amazing.

Both sides are doing quite well in wasting time and effort on insignificant legislative items. Non-binding resolutions concerning troop pullout in Iraq, amendments banning gay marriage, and the flag burning amendment are prime examples of this.
Of course, it is the summer before mid-term elections, so you need something to do to ease the simple-minds of the electorate and continue to give additional fodder to those who just don't care enough to vote.
I suppose this is all much better than immigration reform, Social Security reform, health care, and energy policy reform.

I guess it has a lot to do with what people were raised to believe. In my family, transference of patriotism to a flag was considered idolatrous and an insult to true patriotism. Meh, Calvinism caused that somehow. It’s interesting to me how the left and the right of this country are both rooted in Calvinism in their own distinctive ways.
